Swedish Massage

This is what a lot of people think of when they think of massage. In Europe, this is referred to as Classical Massage.

The roots of Swedish Massage date back to Per Ling in Sweden. He conceived of bodywork as a way to treat athletes to keep them in performance condition and promote the healing of strained muscles.

Though the Swedish Massage of today little resembles his original therapy, it shares the basic principles. It consists of light stretches, kneading, tapping and gliding along your body with pressure to soothe muscles that are sore, tired, tight or overstretched, promoting relief and healing by flushing metabolites out of muscles to reduce pain and bringing in fresh oxygenated and nutrient-rich blood to nourish the affected area.
