Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a type of gentle bodywork developed by Dr. John E. Upledger. It uses an extremely light touch (approximately 5 grams, or the weight of a nickel) to evaluate and enhance the function of the craniosacral system. This system includes the membranes and the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
Because Craniosacral is non-invasive, it is extremely relaxing and can be enjoyed by many who might not be able to tolerate other types of massage. This work enhances the body's own ability to heal itself, and the Upledger Institute has found it effective for a variety of conditions, including:
Migraine Headaches
Chronic Neck and Back Pain
Motor-Coordination Impairments
Colic
Autism
Central Nervous System Disorders
Orthopedic Problems
Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
Scoliosis
Infantile Disorders
Learning Disabilities
Chronic Fatigue
Emotional Difficulties
Stress and Tension-Related Problems
Fibromyalgia and Other Connective Tissue Disorders
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)
Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-Surgical Dysfunction
